About the Author Pete Cava serves as a correspondent for the wire service Agence France-Presse. A veteran of five Olympics (two as a reporter, three as a network television researcher), he is a member of Track and Field Writers of America, the Association of Track and Field Statisticians and the International Society of Olympic Historians. He lives in Indianapolis, Indiana.

By David Reddick Pete's done a wonderful job of assembling stories on each of the 364 Hoosiers who have played major league baseball. What a tremendous undertaking on his part! This is not one of those books that you read from cover to cover in a few days. Rather, I find myself picking it up when I have a free moment and picking the story of a ball player I remember from my childhood. Once I finish that group of stories, I'll probably start on more contemporary players before finishing up with the nineteenth century guys. Indiana is about to begin celebrating its 200th birthday as a state, and I think anyone interested in Hoosier history could be doing themselves a favor by buying Pete's book. It's a great way to spend the winter months as we wait for another baseball season to start. Go Mets!
