The Rise of the Seminoles is the fairy-tale story of Florida State University football. From 1973–75, the football team at FSU had a combined record of 4–29. The next season, Bobby Bowden took over as head football coach and, over the next thirty-three years, led FSU to twenty-one bowl game wins and two National Championships. The Rise of the Seminoles is not just about Bobby Bowden; it is about the season that started it all: 1976. Before Bowden took over and the University of Miami gained its notoriety, college football in the state of Florida consisted of the University of Florida. Florida State wasn’t even on the radar. Today, FSU is a football powerhouse and recently won the 2013 National Championship.Through the writing talents of Lew Freedman, one of only two reporters covering FSU during Bowden’s time, this book follows the incredible journey the Seminoles have taken through history. Drawing from firsthand experience and Bowden himself, Freedman is the perfect author to bring this story to life. No matter their age, fans of the FSU football program can enjoy and take pride in their team’s very own rags-to-riches story.Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team.Whether you are a New York Yankees fan or hail from Red Sox nation; whether you are a die-hard Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys fan; whether you root for the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, UCLA Bruins, or Kansas Jayhawks; whether you route for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Los Angeles Kings; we have a book for you. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to publishing books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked by other publishers and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Interesting football book By Brad Taylor I am not a Florida State fan, but I am a huge college football fan and I love how this book goes through the details on how Bowden built this program. I am not finished reading it yet, but it is very interesting.

With the Iranian government willing to let the hostages become martyrs, and the British government only willing to talk if the terrorists surrendered, twenty-six lives hung in the balance.  What followed was six days of tension and terror. It was finally ended when the SAS launched a daring rescue mission, broadcast live on television. Millions held their breath, waiting to see the outcome of Operation Nimrod.  Buy this book to learn the truth about one of the most dramatic rescue missions ever undertaken by the SAS. My mind was spinning at this point. Here I was – someone who grew up not believing in ghosts, a veteran journalist used to questioning everything – apparently having a conversation with a captain who fought at Gettysburg more than 150 years ago. Was it really possible? Was this some gigantic, wildly ingenious incredible hoax, or was this conversation somehow real? And what was it that brought me – a once dyed-in-the-wool paranormal doubter – to this haunted bridge in search of ghosts? - Don Allison After years of experiences that he could not rationally explain -- experiences that many people encounter, and do shrug off or rationalize - award winning newspaper editor and columnist Don Allison decided to search for answers. Experiences that Don and his grandson experienced in Gettysburg in the spring of 2015 finally convinced Don to present this serious look at the paranormal.. This is what noted paranormal investigator and historian Mark Nesbitt, author of the "Ghosts of Gettysburg" series of books, has to say about "I Met a Ghost at Gettysburg": "A great read. Very entertaining ... I think you've created an "Everyman's" explanation of paranormal experiences. Most people ignore or rationalize away true paranormal events. Your book covers the many types of paranormal events AS paranormal events, and explains how you came (reluctantly, in some cases) to those conclusions."

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great read... By Robin Kemp I myself am a skeptic concerning paranormal activity. This book was very believable and the stories came out even though the author struggled with the decision to put them in print. Well done.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. too much jumping around. By Amazon Customer As I read through the book I though the stories were interesting, But I had to quit reading from all the jumping around in the book. One minute it was on Gettysburg the next it was on the house he was building then again when he was younger at his grandma's house. I finally gave up on reading it because of all the jumping around and couldn't focus on one thing. Other than that it had pretty cool stories in it.

I have been to the Gettysburg battlefield, and it made mefeel sad for all those young boys who gave their lives. I could feel a spiritual presence there. It brought tears to my eyes.

Excerpt from Memoir of Col. Benjamin TallmadgeThe following Memoir of Colonel Benjamin Tallmadge was prepared by himself, at the request of his children, and for their gratification. It is confined, principally, to those incidents of the Revolutionary War with which he was more immediately connected, and therefore becomes the more interesting to his descendants and family friends. For their convenience, and for the additional purpose of contributing to the authenticity of our Revolutionary History, I determined to publish this Memoir; and, as it terminates with the close of the Revolutionary struggle, I have added a brief sketch of his subsequent life.As a frontispiece, I have placed an engraved copy of a pencil sketch of my father, made by Colonel John Trumbull, soon after the close of the Revolutionary War, and which he presented to me, in frame, a few years before that venerated patriot's death.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. McDonald After reading a book on Washington's Spies I ordered this reprint of a classic Revolutionary War memoir and am very glad I did. This is a short but entirely excellent first-hand account. If you are looking for any further elucidation of the activities of Washington's spies, however, you will not find it here. The memoir addresses almost nothing about that activity--but that is okay by me, because it is a great first-hand account of other important activities.
